Mac a £oan (v1.0) was meant to be a simple and friendly program that would be useful for the rest of us. It was originally uploaded to BBs in 1987 and then removed. In the interim, imitations have appeared , but don't be fooled! On June 26th, 1988, Coconut Info re-released Mac a £oan (v1.1) as a permanent shareware program. On October 29, 1988, Coconut Info released a minor upgrade, Mac a £oan (v1.2) and on September 1, 1989, Mac a £oan 1.3 was released. On March 22nd, 1990, Mac a £oan 1.4 was released as a maintenance upgrade, and to alert our customers to our new address and support guidelines.
In April of 1991 Mac a £oan 2.0 was released. It is compatible from Systems 4.8 (at least) through 7.0.b4 (at least). It is also MultiFinder compatible (Summary Only calculations need to be done in the foreground). Mac a £oan 2.0 works on all the latest Mac's, including those lucky enough to have an 68030 central processor, such as the SE030, IIci, and the FX. Some new features introduced with version 2.0 are:
• Ability to print the data from any Mac a £oan window to ANY printer
• Ability to copy any Mac a £oan window to the clipboard
• Ability to review and print yearly summaries
• Ability to cancel a loan calculation without quitting the application
• Better routine handling and error trapping
• An improved menu bar with command-key equivalents
• Use of standard toolbox cursors
• Improved display of numbers on the screen
• Improved screen refreshing for multiple windows and events
• Custom owner licensing embedded
• Registration of APPL file type "PALM"
• Registration of International Standard Program Number ISPN # 13278-500
Only a demo of version 2.0 is available as shareware ($9). This “demo” is actually far better than a working version 1.4, but has some of the new features disabled. A full-working, customized, version of Mac a £oan 2.0 is available for $19.95.
Mac a £oan is a stand alone application. Simply double-click the Mac a £oan application, or select it and then choose open from the Finder.
Mac a £oan will generate a standard amortization schedule using approximate time and ordinary simple interest. (Banking standard).
You must enter the amount of the loan as well as the desired interest rate plus the length of the loan in years. Use decimals for fractions, i.e. you would enter the decimal fraction .5 for half a year.
Click the check box for summary only if that is all you want, otherwise it will track forward for each year of the loan after clicking the calculate button. Cancel anytime.

Funny thing, you noticed…
Patience is a virtue when calculating ‘summaries only’ for astronomical calculations. We'll save you some curiosity though by telling you that if you are calculating the ‘summary only’ of a loan amortized over the next 600 years you are going to have to wait a few minutes. You can use Mac a £oan for benchmark speed tests to see who has the fastest Mac in the office.
When a payment figure is less than a penny it is rounded to zero. For instance if you borrow $1200 at 6% interest for 200 years your monthly payment will be zero. Try a fewer number of years until you get a least a penny of payment going every month! Lets get real!
Your final principal amount shows how much your last payment is. If it is a negative number, that approximate amount would be returned by the lender. If it is a positive number, that would be an additional final payment due from the borrower. This explains why the Total Summary Paid amount may “appear” to be less than the yearly review summaries totaled. The last payment (or prinicipal amount finally due) isn't reflected in the yearly reviews which reflect the standard monthly payments only.
